Former les designers de demain

For nearly 30 years, Strate has been training the different actors who think, create, test, produce and promote the objects, systems and services of tomorrow.

think. do. design.

Penser, vivre et consommer autrement.

After two centuries of development, which saw both the soaring of human knowledge and two world wars that sent humanity back to its darkest side, after believing that resources were infinite and discovering the finiteness of its planet, man is led by his reason as well as by the brutality of the situation to the need to think differently, to live differently, to consume differently, while trying to satisfy his desire for emancipation and for a peaceful life together.

To achieve such an objective, it is necessary to act on our daily environments - that is to say, on the sustainable quality of the services, systems and objects that make them up - and to allow free and responsible individuals to develop and carry out their personal and collective projects.

It is precisely the mission of the designer trained at Strate School of Design to contribute to solving this equation, by linking the requirements of utility, ease, simplicity, pleasure and beauty, at the service of all men, and of each one of them.

Le design au service de la qualité des vies des personnes.

Between the engineer's project - to master technologies - and the marketer's - to identify needs - the designer joins and accomplishes these projects, reversing the points of view, and putting them at the service of the quality of people's lives.

At Strate School of Design, the designer relies on what we call the "design mix" which combines:

  • a culture and a history,
  • specific technical expertise (drawing, volume, and more generally all representation techniques),
  • a multidisciplinary approach that draws on the human sciences, marketing, engineering, materials and processes,
  • a methodological approach that combines project management and mediation methodologies with creative methodologies.

Savoir représenter & donner forme.

At Strate School of Design, the technical expertise that differentiates the designer's profession is linked to his capacity to represent, to formalize. We learn how to draw, model, sculpt, represent flat or in volume.

These techniques are first and foremost "artistic", because they involve producing beauty. Whether it is an everyday object, a professional object, a valuable or insignificant object, or a space, beauty is always at the service of the quality of the experience, whether lasting or ephemeral.

Des outils en évolution constante.

The plurality of the techniques approached is a determining criterion at Strate School of Design. These techniques are supported by tools that are constantly evolving and adding up.

Between clay sculpture and 3D modelling, between pastels and Photoshop, between graphite and Illustrator, between decals and 3D printing, between a comic book and a digital video, the designer adapts to all media.

He must then seize all these new modalities, without ever being hypnotized by their power to the point of losing sight of his objectives.

For several years, Strate has opened a Bachelor in 3D Modeling to specialize in modeling and master the 3D tools.

Une approche méthodologique

The lessons induce and enable highly effective ways of thinking, concept production, communication, sharing and collaborative development.

The value of the designer is that he integrates into a multidisciplinary project team and improves the nature and temporalities.

Dinou

Une approche résolument multidisciplinaire

The designer is at the crossroads of several disciplines and it is this posture that gives relevance and strength to his approach, the same one we implement at Strate Ecole de Design. He is both an observer of the human situations he works on and an exploiter of the technologies available to respond to them.

The first of its tasks is to observe, and this observation is primarily anthropological. It is a matter of identifying human issues before translating them into market terms: the service, the system that supports it, and the objects that make it up are responses to human needs before being commercial offers.

The designer will therefore draw on the human sciences to determine what he must measure and observe. He will then go to the field to study it, using an ethnographic approach. He will then carry out analyses in order to draw lessons that will allow him to develop solutions.
Marketing techniques are not excluded from this stage: surveys, panels, focus groups are complements to a more scientific approach.

The second task of the designer is to identify the technologies, processes and materials that will allow the implementation of the developed solutions.

This implies a permanent monitoring activity on its part. In fact, the choice of a technology always has repercussions in terms of feasibility, manufacturing, robustness, but also cost. This multidisciplinary practice is not only fruitful, it is also the condition of the designer's mediation approach, whether he acts as a project manager or as a simple facilitator.

Pour un design durable

Designers are involved in designing the devices that structure our daily lives.

This artificial and complex environment has a strong influence on our perception of the world and discreetly shapes our lifestyles: we are all objects of design. Paradoxically, our ability to adapt these lifestyles to the challenges of the planet remains a major difficulty, even though it conditions the sustainability of our species. This is why designers must exercise their responsibility by acquiring a good understanding of the issues at stake, and by integrating a holistic approach and the long term into their thinking. They are then able to put their know-how at the service of the research and conception of solutions that are both viable and desirable.

At Strate School of design, the main objective of the designer is to serve his fellow men and women. If the formula is strong, it symbolizes well the stakes of our time.
